Artist Statement

Over the past two decades, I have been making art which questions our long held understandings of time, space, energy, and matter. With a focus on visualizing the most lush & ethereal phenomena of the natural world, my collages and drawings are first and foremost celebrations of the ongoing physical and spiritual evolution of our universe. As an artist who sees the process of creating art as non-linear, I find that I often experience the past, present, and future lives of my subjects all simultaneously. The use of layered, antique & vintage collage elements helps to provide me with the building blocks for illustrating the complexities of what was, what is, and what could be.

About 10 years ago, I began incorporating a plein air & still life drawing practice alongside my collage work, with a deep focus on the study of flowers. Rich in color, texture, scent, and often otherworldly in shape, flowers bring to my work tales of the underground through their roots & veins, and soak in the mysteries of the cosmos from above in their petals & leaves.  Flowers are now an essential part of my visual vocabulary, also acting as time keepers, myth makers, historical markers, and beacons from the future.

I am a 1996 graduate of Bennington College and received my MFA in 2005 from The School of Visual Arts, where I focused on the study of painting, drawing, and collage. I moved to Rhode Island in 2008, and currently work out of an antique and vintage paper filled studio in Providence’s Olneyville neighborhood. I am thrilled to share that I will have a solo show at the Dryden Gallery in Providence, RI in Spring of 2025. I’m also delighted to be entering my 3rd year of working with the Squam Art Workshops team, both as a freelance art instructor and a member of the event support staff. In October of 2024, my first book art project will debut on the cover of “These Dark Things-12 New Gothic Tales,” published by Briar Press.
